"iiYAH*ISHA" is an award winning theatrical designer, Chautauquan and Agri CULTURAL Artivist whose spoken word and fabric /Eco*Enviro art fosters the ultimate in the intergenerational ancestral tradition...she centers all artistic initiatives within multi-cultural / ancestral focusing as she utilizes  interdisciplinary eclectic communication standards to educate, to encourage, to empower, to bless and to heal.

"iiYAH*ISHA" describes herself as an Amer*African Humanist WordsWoman...she is the founding mentor of The ULTRA YOUth! Intergenerational Agri CULTURAL Arts COOPERATIVE COMMUNIVERSITY, 1985.

She travels cross culturally to create & perpetuate community gardens...to share as one of the world's dedicated GRIOT- ARTIVIST...by using the NGUZO SABA (7 Principles of Kwanzaa) as a model for PEACE, JUSTICE and COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT...iiYAH*ISHA has been an arts educator and performer honoring collaborations with...PBS TV, National School Systems, The Southern Artistry Federation, the Memphis Black Arts Alliance , ArtsMemphis and the Memphis Center City Commission's DownTown ALIVE!, and The Nevada  Arts Council. In the interest of the preservation and perpetuation of civil liberites via storytelling, participants share in the the experience of retrieval and sharing of community histories via the technical intervention of television production!
Serious investors will be able to aquire professional training as producers. Seminars in time management & scheduling, lighting, sound and set design, interviewing techniques. Opportunities to gain proficiency in state of the art digital media computer labs are available.
In a symbionic, Learner / Teacher atmosphere, committed participants are insured "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".

KUUMBA THEATRE
Participants will explore the rudiments of drama by enhancing their communication skills through the spiritual vehicles of Improv, Play Reading & Writing and theatrical production...


ARTISTIC CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Exploration of creative means by which disputes can be equitably mediated and ultimately resolved artistically...participants will not only invest in the use of oral and visual artistic aesthetics, musical and dance elements will be incoporated in an interactive continuum of PEACE inducing healing systems which supercede spacial and generational limitations! Art as Evolution!

Students will know what PL108-447 means to U.S. citizens as well as global communities...All participants will know the WHO, WHEN, WHAT and WHY of 17 September and just HOW law impacts CIVIL RIGHTS!

Students will increase environmental awareness while enhancing listening and reading skills. Through the utilization of interactory puzzles, games, maps and social activism...all participants will be able to answer the question...Where In The World Are You? A culminating travel path field trip may be taken, with a group nature walk or bus ride....on an exploratory,  healing touch, empowering, fact finding excursion!

While learning languages, world histories and songs...students while interact via the uplifting power of healing touch and dance! Students will be encouraged in the development of a finale piece which will showcase specific time periods and people.


FOUND SOUNDS:
(Making Natural Music With Tonal Recycleables)
Students experience eclectic recycling by creating musical intruments from found objects...Students will be encouraged to add tonal embellishment to familiar standards and to individual and group favorites...


KWANZAA KYDZ:
(A Behavior Management / Intervention / Tolerance Continuum)
Students will learn to live the NGUZO SABA and earn KWANZAA BUCKS as reward for exampling the essence of the 7 Principles of...Unity, Self Determination, Collective Work & Responsibility, Purpose, Creativity and Faith! This highly interactive community empowerment residency will incorporate individual and group service learning opportunities. Participants will document their progress via multi-media

SWAHILI SYLLABUS

Students will recieve an indepth introduction to the most popular African language from learning to count and saying ABC's...through singing Kwanzaa / English ditties...all together guaranteeing culturally diverse enjoyment! Participants will be excited to showcase their skills in schooland  community performances!

KINTE * KANGA *KWILTS
(Celebrating Diversity w/ Cloth)
Participants will share in the ultimate of  cross cultural awareness and investment by designing and fabricating personalized message panels suitable for wearable art and quilts. Students will create individual squares specific to certain cultures of interest and share in the most basic utilitarian art forms from group knotting paper shapes to sewing with needle and thread! 

A KWANZAA PAGEANT!
Kwanzaa ia an agri CULTURAL arts celebration! Through the sharing of Kwanzaa tales and songs, students will learn the who, when, what. where and how of this Amer*African festival and it's multi-cultural connections! Participants will create Kwanzaa specific crafts, stories and dances - all in time for KARAMU...the Feast of the First  Fruits of the harvest!


PLANTING THE SEEDS of PEACE!
Using the centering power of Green Gardens as life metaphor, iiYAH ISHA will spark student eco-environmental interest in the art and science of CommUnity. This PREPAREDNESS model will enable all participants to develop creative relationships between agriculture, music and ecology! Earthwise Edu-Arts Journals will be made for daily journal entries or sketches as they plant, maintain and harvest community gardens and interview CommUnity GREEN Elders.


Sharing OURSTORY!
(Beginning Genealogical Research):
Volumes of yarns retrieved from cross cultural research and interviews will encourage students to share personal and community stories as prerequisite to more indepth genealogical investigation! Participants will develop a collage time-line comprised of ancestral charts, original art and photographs.

FROM MEDU-NETER to GRANDE GRAFFITI!

(Cross-Cultural Penmanship)
Students will be increased in the power of the written word by experiencing the stimulation of Petroglyphs, Andinkra and Calligraphy & more! This cross-cultural investment will encourage all participants in the quintessential collaborative beauty of writing and mural art...


PEACE * SING!
(Piecing Commnunity Quilts):
Invest in the most ancient of ancestral arts by quilting incorporate with group singing! Participants will create a community quilt while learning songs that bind!

MUSICAL MIGRATIONS
(Diasporas Musically Defined)
Students learn the songs and stories of global communities via the musical traditions which traveled with them...all participants will be encouraged to focus on their specific ancestral roots...resulting in a unique cross-cultural teaching & learning
interdisciplinary exchange!

Students will use role play and impromptu theatre to explore and embrace the universal principles of peace! Verbal and non-verbal skills building will insure enjoyment of this interactive model for mediation and values clarification...a socially empowering activity.

Students will make art from discards...great for science fair projects as well as costuming! Disciplines embracing math, science and ecology and loads of creativity will instill in participants a life long commitment to Recycle, Reduce, Reuse...

From basic international sign language...to group song signing, this second language opportunity will strengthen the observation and communicative skill of ALL who participate!

With storytelling, oral histories and documentaries as a humanizing mediums, students will learn the historic facts of Africans in America...all participants will incorporate culturally specific visual / fabric art and jewelry crafting as factual reinforcement!

Broaden student awareness by allowing opportunities for values clarification...participants will learn to overcome challenges by recognizing certain truths...willing participants will incorporate their braille awareness into hands-on art pieces.

OWANGALIMA embodies the soul of community...people's lives...& as they live...& as they share...& as they receive...& as they love...& invest & multiply...& as they plan & as they build the collaborative dream...OWANGALIMA IS ALL THAT CommUnity IS!

* Orientation & Introductions *

Participants will meet the artist during this first visit...

The artist will introduce herself and share her artistic history by involving students in a call & response affirmation...

All participants write a short auto-biographical sketch, including a minimum of 2 school or classroom rules...

The artist will collect student bios and rules, randomly calling students to the podium to introduce themselves and share @ least 1 rule different from any previously given...

All students will be issued Art Journal Pages to be collected upon next visit...

The artist will retain rules & bios for follow-up visit...

* Second Session *

The Artist will querie students as to what happened during their previous session, in the order inwhich things occured, calling on them at random from the retained bios...

Artist will collect student Art Journal Pages...


The Artist will share with students the plan for the day, introducing the story..."OWANGALIMA"

All participants will view film, "OWANGALIMA"(:30)

All participants will be issued art suppies (recycled manila folders, crayons & markers)...

Artist will have students draw images from the story, calling on them by show of hands to discuss terms: COMMUNITY & SELF DETERMINATION...

Artist will issue Art Journal Pages...

* Third Session *

Artist will review previous activity...

Students will be randomly divided into balanced groups...

From a basket, students will draw character cards...

Each student will be given (:15) time to rehearse with their group...
